MOLYKOTE 211

Main features

  • Heat-Stabilized Shear Viscosity
  • Blendable Viscosity Grade Range
  • Automotive Fan-Clutch Fluid

Product Description

MOLYKOTE 211 Fluid is a heat-stabilized dimethyl polysiloxane fluid family developed for automotive fan clutches. It is available in multiple standard viscosity grades and includes a specialty additive for controlled shear-viscosity behavior. The fluid undergoes minimal viscosity change under severe heat and shear stress in fan-clutch operating conditions. Adjacent viscosity grades may be blended when an intermediate viscosity is required. Viscosity values, SDS coverage and other numeric technical properties are specific to each grade and do not apply uniformly across this fluid family.

Key features

  • Heat-stabilized shear viscosity: Maintains controlled viscosity behavior through severe heat and shear conditions within the supported fan-clutch applications.
  • Blendable viscosity grades: Standard grades may be blended to obtain an intermediate viscosity for the supported application.
  • Automotive fan-clutch focus: Developed specifically as a silicone fluid family for automotive fan clutches.

Applications

The application is automotive fan clutches, with exact viscosity selection made for the individual grade.

General Properties
Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Thermal Properties
Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.
