LORD 320/323

Main features

  • 20-40 Minute Working Window
  • 45-60 Minute Cure at 82 deg C
  • UV-Fluorescent Mix Inspection

Product Description

LORD 320/323 is a two-part epoxy adhesive system for primerless bonding to automotive SMC and adhesion to prepared metals, rubber, FRP, polyester thermosets and thermoplastics. It can cure at room temperature or with heat, with a typical working time of 20-40 minutes at 24 deg C and handling strength in 2-4 hours. A general-purpose mixed-stress configuration uses a 1:1 volume ratio, while other joint designs use different ratios. At 82 deg C, full cure strength is reached in 45-60 minutes. LORD 323 hardener fluoresces bright blue under UV light for inspection.

Key features

  • Mixed-System Work Time: Typical working time is 20 to 40 minutes at 24 deg C for a 54 g mixed mass.
  • Heat-Cure Schedule: Full cure strength can be obtained in 45 to 60 minutes at 82 deg C.
  • UV Inspection: LORD 323 hardener fluoresces bright blue under UV light to aid material inspection.

Applications

Automotive SMC, prepared metals, rubber, FRP, polyester thermosets and thermoplastics.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Thermal Properties
Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.
93 °C
Glass Transition Temperature (Tg)
The glass transition temperature for organic adhesives is a temperature region where the polymers change from glassy and brittle to soft and rubbery. Increasing the temperature further continues the softening process as the viscosity drops too. Temperatures between the glass transition temperature and below the decomposition point of the adhesive are the best region for bonding. The glass-transition temperature Tg of a material characterizes the range of temperatures over which this glass transition occurs.
80 °C
Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
