LOCTITE 3060

Main features

  • Rapid 30-120-Second Steel Fixture
  • Thixotropic 1:1 External Mixing
  • High-Impact Magnet Bonding

Product Description

LOCTITE AA 3060 is a two-component thixotropic methacrylate structural adhesive for bonding magnets and metal assemblies. The externally mixed Part A and Part B system uses a 1:1 ratio, produces a green-blue mixture, and has an open time of 150 seconds maximum at 22 deg C. Fixture time on as-received steel is 30 to 120 seconds, based on development of 0.1 N/mm^2 shear strength. After 48 hours at 25 deg C, lap shear strength is 13 N/mm^2 for grit-blasted steel to ferrite and 15 N/mm^2 for grit-blasted steel to neodymium. Applications include ferrite and rare-earth magnets bonded to motor rotors and stators.

Key features

  • External 1:1 mixing: Part A and Part B are externally mixed at a 1:1 ratio to form a green-blue thixotropic adhesive.
  • Rapid steel fixture: Fixture time is 30 to 120 seconds on as-received steel at the 0.1 N/mm^2 shear-strength threshold.
  • Magnet bond performance: Lap shear strength reaches 13 N/mm^2 on grit-blasted steel to ferrite and 15 N/mm^2 on grit-blasted steel to neodymium after 48 hours at 25 deg C.

Applications

Applications include bonding ferrite and rare-earth magnets to metal rotors and stators in fractional-horsepower motors, plus structural bonding of metals.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Thermal Properties
Glass Transition Temperature (Tg)
The glass transition temperature for organic adhesives is a temperature region where the polymers change from glassy and brittle to soft and rubbery. Increasing the temperature further continues the softening process as the viscosity drops too. Temperatures between the glass transition temperature and below the decomposition point of the adhesive are the best region for bonding. The glass-transition temperature Tg of a material characterizes the range of temperatures over which this glass transition occurs.
104 °C
Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
