LOCTITE 2892

Main features

  • High-Viscosity Flange Gap Filling
  • Resilient Flange-Movement Sealing
  • Manual or Screen-Print Application

Product Description

LOCTITE 2892 is a one-component, blue, high-viscosity anaerobic methacrylate sealant for form-in-place sealing between rigid metal flanges. It fills surface imperfections and has a stated gap-filling capability up to 0.254 mm, while application directions specify close-fitting flange gaps up to 0.1 mm. Brookfield viscosity is 2,500,000 to 4,600,000 mPa s at 0.5 rpm and 450,000 to 950,000 mPa s at 5 rpm, both at 25 deg C. After cure between mating flanges, it forms a tough, resilient seal that flexes with movement from vibration, pressurization, or thermal changes. Application methods include a continuous manual bead or screen printing.

Key features

  • Close-flange gap filling: Gap-filling capability extends to 0.254 mm, while application directions specify close-fitting flanges with gaps up to 0.1 mm.
  • High-viscosity rheology: Brookfield viscosity spans 2,500,000 to 4,600,000 mPa s at 0.5 rpm and 450,000 to 950,000 mPa s at 5 rpm.
  • Resilient cured seal: The cured material flexes with flange movement caused by vibration, pressurization, or thermal changes.

Applications

Applications include form-in-place sealing of close-fitting rigid metal flanges by continuous manual bead or screen printing.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
