LOCTITE 232

Main features

  • Lubricated Heavy-Fit Assembly
  • Medium-Strength Anaerobic Retention
  • Steel Press-Fit Shear Performance

Product Description

LOCTITE 232 is a one-component, opaque brown anaerobic methacrylate retaining compound with medium viscosity and medium strength. Its lubricating behavior facilitates assembly when heavy interference or high torque is used, while the cured material increases the force required for disassembly. The as-supplied viscosity is 3,600 to 8,800 mPa s at 25 deg C. Steel pin-and-collar specimens reach at least 7.0 N/mm^2 compressive shear strength after two hours at 121 deg C. The product is used for highly torqued threaded joints, heavy press fits, and related slip-fit, press-fit, or shrink-fit metal assemblies.

Key features

  • Lubricated heavy-fit assembly: Lubricating properties facilitate assembly under heavy interference or high torque and reduce galling and pickup during disassembly.
  • One-part retaining format: The no-mix liquid combines medium viscosity and medium strength for threaded and cylindrical metal assemblies.
  • Cured steel shear: Compressive shear strength is at least 7.0 N/mm^2 on steel pins and collars after two hours at 121 deg C by ISO 10123.

Applications

Applications include highly torqued threaded assemblies, heavy press fits, and slip-fit, press-fit, or shrink-fit cylindrical metal assemblies.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
