HARDENER HY 991

Main features

  • 23,000 cP Hardener Viscosity
  • AY 103 100:40 Weight Mix
  • 20 to 100 deg C Cure Range

Product Description

HARDENER HY 991 is the low-viscosity epoxy hardener component used in the ARALDITE AY 103 resin system. The AY 103/HY 991 system is a transparent adhesive for bonding metal, ceramic, and wood; application methods include spatula, stiff brush, and metering, mixing, and coating equipment. HY 991 is an amber liquid with typical specific gravity of 0.93 and viscosity of 23,000 cP at 25 deg C. The paired system mixes at 100:40 by weight or 100:50 by volume and cures from 20 to 100 deg C. Cured performance remains specific to the AY 103/HY 991 pairing.

Key features

  • Hardener Viscosity: HARDENER HY 991 has a typical viscosity of 23,000 cP at 25 deg C.
  • AY 103 Mix Ratio: The paired system uses 100:40 by weight or 100:50 by volume.
  • AY 103 Cure Range: The AY 103/HY 991 adhesive system cures from 20 to 100 deg C.

Applications

Hardener component for the AY 103/HY 991 epoxy adhesive used to bond metal, ceramic, and wood.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
15-35 mPa.s
